About Elizabeth Grossman

Elizabeth GrossmanI am a mediator, litigator, and manager who, for over thirty years, worked for the federal government and non-profit organizations, specializing in anti-discrimination law. My practice has included employment, housing, disability, and other civil rights matters. I am an attorney admitted in New York State and several federal and appellate courts. In addition to conducting mediations and engaging in other consulting projects in 2020 – 2021, my previous work experience includes:

  • Executive Director/General Counsel, Fair Housing Justice Center
  • Interim Chief Legal Officer, Southern Poverty Law Center
  • Legal Director, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House
  • Regional Attorney, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, New York District Office
  • Program Director, Disability Rights New York

WAYS I CAN HELP

MEDIATION

My priority is to facilitate resolution of legal matters at the earliest possible opportunity. I strive to do this in a way that is efficient and that allows all parties to engage in a process with the goal of generating achievable results. As someone who has both litigated on behalf of workers and supervised teams of employees, I have developed a deep understanding of the employee and employer positions that lead to conflict in the workplace. My experience working on individual and systemic housing and disability lawsuits further informs my assistance in resolving a wide variety of related disputes. In my role as a neutral, I listen carefully to all involved and use creative approaches to maximize the benefits of agreements acceptable for each party. I have been mediating disputes for over twenty-five years, and am available to help with conflicts relating to race, national origin, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, disability, religion, and any other characteristics that are the subject of civil rights claims.

CLAIMS PROCESSES

To assist parties with class case settlements in employment, housing and disability matters, I use my many years of experience in formulating, implementing, supervising, and administering claims processes as well as designing unique and effective injunctive relief. I will function as a Settlement Administrator, Outside Monitor, Special Master, or any other role that is helpful in a claims process.

INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIONS

I assist employers, housing providers, and others, by providing a thorough, objective internal investigation of employer concerns or employee allegations, and when appropriate, recommending actions to put the employer in the best position going forward.

GRANT STRATEGY SUPPORT

As grants become more and more competitive, I am available to help organizations strategize about options and to develop grant proposals that highlight their strengths and accomplishments.

  • Are you having trouble finding the right grants for your organization?
  • Do you need writing or editing assistance with a grant proposal?
  • Do you need a new system to make grant reporting manageable?
  • Are you collecting data and don’t know what to do with it?

STRATEGIC PLANNING & PROGRAM DESIGN

I believe in transparency, clear written policies, and implementing systems that allow employees to do their work most efficiently, and I can help put a vison into place while considering input from all sources.

  • Do you need help formulating a strategic plan?
  • Does your program need to become more efficient?
  • Do you need policies written and/or compiled in one place?
  • Are you looking to restructure operations?
